“Today, after more than a century of electric technology, we have extended our central nervous system itself in a global embrace, abolishing both space and time as far as our planet is concerned.”
The sixth Information Revolution talks about the coming of the Computer and Internet. At first, Computer was built as machine to compute while the Internet was just a mere help for some to transmit data, like communications skills for military. But after how many years, it became open to the public as a means of entertainment.
The start of the internet brings a lot of changes to the masses, it may be a good or bad changes.
The good thing about the internet is it brings distances closer, like what McLuhan said, it collapses time and space. It makes people of different poles connect. It provides different sites where you can directly search what you want and get instant results. It gives as the possibility to stay connected to people around the globe. The bad thing is because of openness it brings, people tend to abuse this and now we are not sure if all we get in the internet is precise and accurate.
The inventions of different media and communication gadgets like satellites, computers, Internet, fiber optics cable, CDs and cellular phones brings us to progress. Because of these things, we enjoy watching television or CDs at home or even enjoy those programs from other countries. We can talk, chat or easily leave messages to those people who are in other countries. Through fiber optics we enjoy what signals bring. And what we enjoy the most is our cellular phones that we always carry, and will always be a great part of our day. Because of this “highway” we know what interaction, live entertainment and communication is all about.
