US.Time Magazine

Entering College is a big step for me, with a new study place, new set of classmates, new set of teachers, professors I mean and with a really different environment, away from the grade school ad high school norms that I am used to. And so I prepared myself to be a college student – a Communication Arts student.

CA201-Introduction to Mass Communication. As this course was introduced to us, I don’t know what to feel, I am nervous of this college life. On the first day of this course, the first thing that entered my mind is that I hope the professor doesn’t eat students, and I am so happy to know that she doesn’t. when she gave us the syllabus, I was excited to learn all those things, the media and all, but then I am also nervous because I don’t know how will am I going to finish all the requirements needed to pass this course, and so I promised to do my best to pass this course. But as the day goes, I learned so many things about the “general information” of this course. My dreams and aspirations tightens that I really want to enter the news and public affairs world, but being a CA student isn’t easy, with all the online tests I have to finish and answer and all the blogs that I have to pass. But all in all I have learned so many things. Like what Ms. Abugan tells, “may mga bagay na kapag hindi mo alam eh hindi mo naman ikamamatay pero dahil isa ka ng CA student, importante na alam mo ang mga bagay bagay”. And so as this course is about to end, still Ms. Abugan surprised as by giving us a difficult project.

US.Time. Our World. Our Generation.

Reading and collecting magazines is a one of the favorite past times of teens now a days, but what if we are to experience creating a magazine similar to the commercialized one. Will you forever curse the magazine because of the pains it bring while doing it or so love it for the joy it brings after you suffer. And that is what we went through, the pain, all the pain but also the unending joy after our magazine has been published.

When the professor told us about the magazine as a big part of our final grade, different expressions and emotions were painted in our faces. But because of the grade that lies within the “holy mag”, we did our best, all for the magazine. With all the editorials to be passed to meet the deadline, all the solicitations we should beg to provide money and the lay-out to accomplish this task, up until the promotion was a big struggle for us. In that, we begin to raise our eyebrows in depression, learn to utter foul words for the sake of meeting the deadline, spent sleepless nights to finish everything and to cry rivers for this project. With this magazine, we are initially expose to the printing world, the print media and all the unbelievable task that they should accomplish, we are put in the shoes of those people who write the articles, lay-out the designs and promote to sell. It is really hard. With this magazine, we now have an idea whether we want to work on world of print media. And most specially, with this magazine, we learn not to see this magazine as a grade. We learn to cooperate with each other, fill tanks of drums of sweat because of hard work and how to cry and laugh together, to understand each other.

The magazine is an important – really important part of our grade but this magazine also helps us to foresee what career we want in the future, this magazine opens the door of print media for us students and with this magazine, we are connected with each other as a class.
